Why Dreams Matter
A dream-come-true serves as a much-needed bright spot in a child’s medical journey. More than a simple wish, it is a spark of joy and renewed hope that touches not only the child, but the entire family as well. These special moments provide comfort in the middle of uncertainty and create cherished memories that carry families forward with strength and resilience through even the most difficult times.
Whether it’s meeting a hero, taking a dream trip, or receiving a cherished gift, each experience has the power to truly transform. Laughter replaces fear, families come together in joy, and a sense of wonder returns. Thanks to generous supporters and dedicated volunteers, thousands of dreams have come true—building bridges of compassion and changing lives for years to come.
The Journey of a Dream
Step 1
The journey starts with a referral from doctors, nurses, Child Life Specialists, social workers, friends, families, and even other patients.
Step 2
We partner closely with the child’s doctor to confirm the diagnosis and ensure they meet all of the required medical criteria.
Step 3
Our team meets with the child and their family to discover their passions, interests, and what would make their dream truly special.
Step 4
Together, we shape the experience—whether it’s meeting a hero, traveling somewhere magical, or receiving a meaningful gift.
Step 5
From travel and accommodations to all the thoughtful details, every part of the dream is carefully arranged with care and attention.
Step 6
The dream becomes reality—celebrated with joy, remembered through lasting memories, and treasured by the entire family.
Behind Every Dream
We partner with each child’s treating physician to verify medical eligibility. Referrals come from leading area hospitals—including Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Moffitt Cancer Center, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, and Tampa General Hospital.
They may be made by doctors, nurses, Child Life Specialists, social workers, family members, friends, or even other patients. Once an application is received and the diagnosis confirmed, our staff meets with the child to learn about their favorite things and begin shaping a dream that feels uniquely theirs.
Every dream is unique. Some children want to meet a hero or take a special trip, while others wish for a meaningful gift or experience closer to home. The most requested dream is a week at Give Kids The World Village, which allows children to enjoy all of the Orlando-area theme parks—but no dream is too big or too small.
You can help make dreams possible by donating, volunteering, or spreading the word. Every act of support, no matter the size, plays a role in bringing joy and hope to a child and their family.
